There is no Christian man or woman that has not used the NAME OF JESUS IN PRAYER.
Some use the name in the beginning of praying. Others on the other hand, use it to close their prayer. But what I have noticed is that even when we use the name,we don’t always get what we ask for.
Over the years,I have learnt how to use the name of Jesus EFFECTIVELY in prayer.
What really saddens me is how people use the name of Jesus as if it is a magic wand.
I dont think most Christians today know the significance of the name of Jesus.
Praying in the name of JeSus today is very much misunderstood.
That is why , when we pray in the Name of Jesus,we don’t get answers ,we get tired and stop praying.
I have not completely understood the significance myself. I will however try my best with the help of the Holy spirit, to teach what I have learnt over the years. As you read this,you will get information that I hope will help you.
WHAT DOES A NAME STAND FOR IN THE BIBLE
When people use the name of Jesus ,they think they are using the 5 letter word J.E.S.U.S.
I thought that the name of Jesus at the end of praying was the stamp that guaranteed an answer.
Unfortunately that is a wrong perception that many of us have.
Using the name of Jesus at the end of a prayer does not really guaranty an answer .
Before you react to that just read on.
People were named according to their purpose, character or situations surrounding their birth in the old testament.
For instance, Rachael the wife of Jacob named her son Benoni which means “son of my sorrow”.
That was because she was in pain and knew she would die.As a result,she named her son according to that situation.
In 1samuel 4:21,the wife of phinehas named her son Ichabod meaning “the glory of Isreal has departed”.
This was because the ark of God was taken and her husband and father in law were dead.
A name also reveals character , nature and purpose of a person.
For instance the name Jesus means “Savior” in Greek.As indeed he is our Savior .
Bare in mind then that a name is equal to character or nature,purpose,and circumstances.
WHAT IS THE PRINCIPLE BEHIND USING THE NAME OF JESUS?
To use the Name of Jesus EFFECTIVELY,there are principles to understand,and requirements to fulfill.Your name is your reputation or character.
.I remember when I was getting ready to start my university education. It was the first time I was going to leave home and stay in campus.
I still remember my father’s words .
He said”Do not go there and spoil the family Name”.
In order words, he warned me not to behave in a way that will ruin the reputation of the family.
The same goes for the name Jesus.Gods names stands for his character as exhibited through out the bible.
In fact,the bible records over 300 names of God.Each of those names represent a particular character of God.
Asking anything in Jesus Name involves asking in such a way as to retain God’s character,purposes and plan.
Anything we ask for in Jesus Name is given to us for his NAME SAKE
Not for your sake.
The principle to take home is that God does what He does for HIS NAME SAKE NOT FOR OURS.
When we understand this ,we will know how to ask for something for His name.sake.
WHY DID JESUS GIVE US PERMISSION TO PRAY IN HIS NAME?
We have all heard of famous names like Trump,Michael Jackson. Obama etc.The only reason we know these names is because these people have made a NAME for themselves.
They have achieved a lot in terms of success and status.As a result, their reputation has grown .
A lot of people attribute renown and fame to their name.
In the same way,God the father sent his Son Jesus to Earth to redeem us to himself,and make a Name for himself.
He wants to perform for us great and wonderful acts that will make his reputation grow .
That is why God wants us to ask him for everything in Jesus Name Such that when He grants our request,it will be attributed to HIS NAME alone.
The more awesome acts God performs for us,in his name,The more popular his name will become .This popularity will cause his reputation to spread more and more.
In the bible ,we see that God keeps us alive for his NAME SAKE.Psalm 143:11
God directs us along the path we should follow for his NAME SAKE.Psalm 31:3.
HE delivers us from sin for his NAME SAKE .
God answers our prayers purely for HIS NAME SAKE.
When you understand this principle,you will learn how to ask for what will bring integrity to God’s name.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO RECEIVE WHAT WE ASK IN JESUS NAME
There are many instances where Jesus gives us the requirements needed to receive whatever we ask of God.
Number 1 requirement is asking according to his will.
1John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in him.That if we ask anything according to HIS WILL HE HEARS US.
And if we know that he hears whatever we ask,we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
The next question is “How can you know God’s will?.
John 15:7.”If you abide in me and my words abide in you,ask what ever you wish and it will be done for you.”
Abiding in God means to see God as your only source for every and Anything.Gods words abide in us by constant communication with the Holy spirit,through meditating on he word.
John 14:26 “But the helper,the Holy spirit whom the father will send in my name,He will teach you all things.and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
Isaiah 30:21″And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying this is the way.Walk in it.When you turn to the left and to the right. “
The Holy Spirit is our helper.Asking the Holy Spirit before taking any decision in your daily life ,is the way you can live according to God’s will.
A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE OF ASKING IN JESUS NAME AND RECEIVING
I prayed for years for a life partner .
At the age of 40, I asked God what was I not doing right?
Three days letter a scripture jumped at me. Proverbs 19 :14″ Houses and wealth are inherited from parents but a prudent wife is a gift from the Lord”
I have definitely read This scripture before.
This time around the word “gift” jumped out from this scripture.
When I asked the Holy Spirit for more explanation, he said I should stop praying for A MATE.
I should rather start praying for God to make me a gift. A gift that will be found by the right mate.
My husband FOUND me at the age of 41. I got married at the age of 43.
God used those two and a half years to prepare me to be the right gift for the right mate.
You see when I asked according to the way the Holy Spirit instructed me to ask in accordance with God’s will, I got an answer.
CONCLUTION
God answers prayers in Jesus name.
All you have to do is ask according to his will.Learn Gods will for you by communicating everyday with the Holy Spirit.
Always see God as your only source by abiding in him.Ask only for his own NAME SAKE.
Do these and whatever you ask IN JESUS NAME ,will be granted.
